The Tudors, Esplora and Valentine’s #littleloves

Another week that seems to have whizzed by. Despite not being on half term, we’ve still had a great week, with a brilliant day out at the weekend, football club for the 5 year old and of course Valentine’s Day. The Mr and I decided not to mark it this year. The poor thing even got a rare dinner of hotdogs that evening as the kids requested them as a treat. And they say romance is dead! But we did get a gorgeous card from the little one that he made at school and was very proud of. We also got a lovely Valentine’s package from my mum with magazines, chocolate lollies and a few other treats for both kids. She may have even snuck in a chocolate rose for me which went down rather well after avoiding treats for the last 2 weeks on my diet.

Onto my #littleloves for the week:

I finally finished Wild and absolutely loved it. It’s one of those books I’d read again in a heartbeat. Next up on my kindle is First of the Tudors. I’ve overdosed on chicklit in the last few months (with the exception of Wild), so it’s time to return to one of my true loves – historic fiction. It follows Jasper Tudor, uncle of Henry VII, and half brother to King Henry V and it has captivated me from the moment I picked it up. There’s a lot been written about the Tudors and the Yorks over the years, thanks to the likes of Philippa Gregory and Alison Weir, but this is the first book I’ve read that puts Jasper at the centre of things.

I watched the first episode of Season 4 of Reign this week. It follows¬†Mary Queen of Scots as she returns to Scotland from France to find her country divided by religion and a constant threat of being murdered on the orders of her cousin Elizabeth I. It’s a great series. Kind of like The Tudors was in that it weaves a story around and embellishes historical fact. Not one for historical puritans, but entertaining nonetheless. Yes I am a history geek.

I ‘made’ over my blog. See what I did there!?! Nothing drastic just a change of theme. I’m still tinkering with it and want to get around to doing something different with my header eventually but haven’t the slightest clue what to do with it. I’d love to have the patience to learn coding in more detail so I could build websites from scratch, but I honestly think my brain might explode if I even attempted it.

The new theme isn’t that different from my last. Still monochrome. Still very simple. But the post images are bigger which I’m hoping will force me into getting better at photography. Or at least making the teen take more pics for me. Gotta love having your own private photographer! And it has a grid layout on the home page which I quite like. Well for now anyway. I change my theme more often than my clothes some years!

It’s back to reality for me. The Mr started his new job on Monday, so I no longer get to stay in my pjs while he takes the kids to school. It’s back to my rather boring uniform of jeans and jumpers for now until it heats up. Although I have seen some rather pasty looking tourists obviously here for half term wandering around in shorts and vests which always makes me feel even colder.

Squeals from this little one as he had a blast at Esplora, a brand new interactive science centre we visited at the weekend. It was probably the best day out we’ve had in the 18 months since we moved here. And the added bonus was it kept both the 15 year old and the 5 year old occupied rather than just the little one. There was so much to do both inside and out and of course it had rather a gorgeous view over the Grand Harbour too.

And lastly…

Next week is the last week of exams for the teen and she’ll be celebrating with a day out with her friends. Not that its been particularly taxing of course, what with her having one exam a day and getting 2 – 3 days off a week. Of course these ‘days off’ are supposed to be to revise, but she seems not to understand that concept, much like me when I was her age. The little one has his carnival party to look forward to on Friday and we get an extra long weekend thanks to having the following Monday and Tuesday off school. Needless to say I’ll be looking forward to turning off my alarm for a few days. Just one more week of 6.30 starts every day to get through first.

Have a great weekend whatever you’re up to!
