Sandcastles, Succulents and Soup #littleloves

Oh boy has it been a long week! We’ve had another week of sickness, with the little one coming down with slapped cheek. Luckily he hasn’t been too ill with it and just seems to have the rash on his face, but he’s been off school scratching away and bored out of his mind. I’m looking forward to the weekend, so I can down tools for work and hopefully get out and about germ free.

This week may have been a long one, but there’s still been plenty to enjoy. Here’s what we’ve been up to.

Read

I finished My Sweet Revenge, which was just as good as Joanne Fallon’s previous book, Strictly Between Us. And made a start on Wild. I’m only a few chapters in and already I’m hooked. I’m also dipping in and out of Happier at Home, from Gretchen Rubin, the author of The Happiness Project. I’m attempting my own little happiness project this year, so it’s making for an interesting read and I’ll definitely be putting some of her ideas into practice.

skincare

And having read Halina’s fab post on creating an easy skincare routine I’ve added a few more lotions and potions to my skincare regime. Well a lot actually. My ‘regime’ only recently consisted in smothering my face in the Emma Hardie Moringa Balm before buffing it off again and smothering it in coconut oil. And that was only if I was going out somewhere. Needless to say, I can’t wait to see how my skin looks once I get this little lot on it.

Watched

A Street Cat Named Bob might just be one of my favourite new movies after discovering it this week. Homelessness, drug addiction, a new start and of course a street cat named Bob, who features in the film ‘as himself’. Perhaps a little dark at points, but as you might expect it does have a happy ending and it really is a wonderful film. It reminded me of when I worked with drug addicts, helping them to find somewhere to live and get their lives back together. Often heartbreaking, yet so rewarding at the same time. It’s got to be one of the best jobs I’ve ever had and one I still really miss. If you haven’t seen it already give it a watch, if only for the gorgeous high-fiving Bob.

Made

tomato and chorizo soup

I’ve been all about healthy eating this week, so I’ve been trying to make as much as possible from scratch. One of my favourites is this tomato and chorizo soup, which I tweaked from one of Suzanne’s recipes and topped with a few of the basil leaves from the little one’s plant he grew at school.

Wore

The little one rolled his joggers up to run in and out of the waves yesterday at the beach. He’s been going stir crazy thanks to the slapped cheek, so we decided to head out and enjoy the sunshine.

Heard

We heard that the man’s first day at his new job has been put back a week, so we’ve got him at home for an extra week next week. Fingers crossed that means he’ll continue to let me off the morning school run. I won’t lie, its been 3 months of heaven not having to drag myself out of the house at 7am every morning.

And lastly…

succulents

I’ve gone (fake) succulent crazy. These three are just a few of the cute little plants I treated myself to from New Look this week. I kill everything, including cacti, so I’m hoping I’ll at least be able to keep these in one piece. They’re currently occupying my window-sill, but once my lounge and bedroom have a well deserved makeover they’ll be finding new homes. I can’t wait to put my stamp on this house. We’ve been here for 18 months, so it’s definitely time for a new look.

Here’s hoping the germs leave us this weekend so we can have some fun. Have a great weekend whatever you’re up to.

He’s hated every minute of doing it, but I’ve been up every morning at 6.30am and out of the door with 2 exhausted kids by 7.15 every day since we moved here and I never get any lay ins, so I thought he should see how exhausting it is. Although he goes back to bed when he gets back from the school run – alright for some! It’s funny because the incubation period is only supposed to be 14 – 21 days, yet having spent xmas with my nieces and nephew, they all have it at the same time. Maybe it’s a coincidence but odd they all have it and live in different countries. Luckily he hasn’t been too ill with it. Fingers crossed your two don’t come down with it x

I’ve bought fake succulents too – what’s not to love?! I cannot keep a plant alive so this is fab. A revelation. Loving the rose gold one. I think my home will be a shrine to the fake plant soon! You finally bought the chorizo? Fab! I see that you whizzed yours up? I wasn’t sure about leaving all the lumps in it so would be interested to know how you found it. Was it nice? I love chorizo though so anything with that in it is a winner for me 🙂 Have a lovely weekend. x

Ha ha glad I’m not the only one. Funnily enough I have a few on my balcony and thought the sun had scorched them to death last summer, but they’re fine again now, so maybe the trick for me is to never bring a plant inside the house.

I did indeed – I got a spicy and a sweet one. It’s funny because I always have some in the house (goes back to when I was living in Spain and couldn’t be without the stuff), but I’d run out when I saw your recipe. It’s lovely blended. I only made mine with tomatoes, pepper, shallots, garlic and chorizo though, but it was lovely with the chorizo through and as I used the spicy one it gave it a nice kick. Got it for lunch again today – I’m hooked! x

It was fab and well worth climbing up and down the 200+ steps to get there. Can’t believe my legs haven’t given way since to be honest x

Sorry about all the bugs. I hope you all enjoy your last week with the husband off work. That soup looks delcious. I love the succulents too. I would love lots of succulents in my house but like you I struggle to keep them alive so fake is good.

Thanks, I’m planning on dragging him to all the places we said we’d go to while he was off but never managed to visit! I’ve kept one cactus alive for about a year inside, but killed the other one I had. I think I actually over water them, but then I kill everything else too! My mum always buys me plants and looks for them the next time she comes and I’ve killed them – oops!

Hope you have a bug free week this week! Slapped cheek has been going around our school and lots in my class have had it, they’ve all been in school as normal though. The beach looks great! He’s very brace to be in the sea, it must be freezing! The succulents look lovely, I wouldn’t have guessed they were fake. Have a lovely weekend x #LittleLoves

Thanks, here’s hoping! It seems to be everywhere at the moment doesn’t it! I was fine with sending him to school but the school nurse rang in a panic on Monday about it so I kept him off until yesterdy (not that its gone down but he was so bored and clearly fine so I showed his teacher info on it to prove it wasn’t contagious once the rash was out), honestly you’d have thought he had the plague the way she was going on! Ha ha we’re lucky it was 20 degrees on the beach on Thursday and although he did have a bit of a shock when he first dipped his feet in the water he soon got used to it – there was some crazies in bikinis in there though! x

Hope your little one feels better this week and the germs are banished! I love those succulents – I never think of New Look for homewares. The soup looks (and sounds) delicious, might have to give it a try myself. I’ve bought Sweet Revenge on you recommendation, looking forward to picking it up. Enjoy your weekend xx

Fingers crossed, although the Mr and the teen now seem to have something else! I’m thinking of just spraying them with anti bacterial spray at this rate the germy lot! I discovered New Look home stuff quite by accident and they have some great little bits – fake plants included, which is great for me. Hope you enjoy Sweet Revenge x

You must have been pretty chilly down by the beach! I keep meaning to hunt down A Street Cat Named Bob to watch, although perhaps I should read the book first.

We were lucky, it was 20 degrees that day so it was lovely to get a little sunshine after the rain we’ve had here. I want to read the book too, the film was lovely so I’d image the book is just as good!

I would never have known those succulents were fake – they look brilliant! And yay for a blast of sunshine to chase away the cobwebs, I hope your wee boy feels a lot better soon 🙂

Thanks, he seems to be over it now, just a teeny bit of the rash left now. It was so nice to get out into the sunshine after a few weeks of rain and it was lovely and warm too. I think fake plants are definitely the way to go for me now and these ones were quite cheap so can’t complain!

I really want to read Wild! Hope it’s good. And thanks so much for the shout-out, glad you enjoyed that post and that it inspired you 🙂 That soup looks delicious, and I say that as someone who is really fussy about soup! And I know what you mean about house plants…I’m SO bad at watering them. Hope everyone gets better soon and that you’ve had a fab weekend! X

Wild is good so far, the film came on the tv the other day actually so I ended up watching that again too. I’ve totally neglected my skin for years. I used to really look after it but its getting to the point where the weather was making it so dry and it definitely needed some attention. In less than a week of trying out all my new lotions and potions I bought after reading your post it’s soft and looks so different already.

Ha ha I usually hate soup and I’m a proper veg dodger, but it was actually really nice and the spicy chorizo in it gave it a slightly meaty taste as well as a bit of a kick. I’m going to make it again next week as it’s that nice and for me to actually want to eat soup, it must be ok! x

I’ve tried to read Wild twice now and keep putting it down for an alternative read. I must try and give it another go.

I saw these little plants at New Look this week and way too many ended up at the checkout. I love New Look for home accessories at the moment. I just watched that trailer too. It looks so good, I really want to watch it. Your soup looks very delicious too. You can’t beat a day at the beach either, especially in the sun!!!

  12. February 8, 2017 / 8:54 pm

Oh that soup looks amazing!!! I will have to try making it. My husband has been off work for the last few weeks and it was bliss not doing the school run! #littleloves
