I love long weekends. Especially when it involves turning my alarm off, instead of dragging myself from my bed for the school run. And that’s exactly what happened this morning. Thanks to a teacher training day, we started the day off an hour later than usual and enjoyed a lazy morning before hitting Sainsbury’s for party nibbles and birthday cake. My niece turned 9 today so we grabbed some goodies and headed over to see her for a few hours ahead of her party tomorrow.
We had such a lovely time and it’s kicked a busy weekend off in the nicest way possible. Here’s hoping it continues!
Onto my #littleloves for the week:
We’ve been buying up new books again this week. First off we bought The Rainbow Fish, which is a sweet story with beautiful pictures and one the 5 year old is enjoying reading himself too.
We also got 2 Star Wars Young Readers books, which the little dude loves. He is almost as obsessed with Star Wars as he is with dinosaurs, so finding books he is interested in and can attempt to start reading himself is a real bonus.
I’ve just started No-one ever has sex on Christmas Day. Yes, I just said Christmas in September. Yes, I’m reading a Christmas story. But in my defence, it is a review copy, out next month, and it is really, really funny. I may have about 20 other Christmas books waiting for me on my kindle to review (although it’s worth pointing out I volunteered to review them), no I’m not sorry!
More amazing tv this week. There are some seriously good things to watch on tv at the moment! I may have even cried at Cold Feet. I was not expecting what happened at all!
I’ve got this seriously dreamy looking lamb and aubergine ragu simmering away on the hob as I type. It smells divine! I’ve been meaning to try it ever since I saw Claire post the recipe a few weeks ago and tonight is the night. If you fancy giving it a go yourself, click on the pic to be taken straight to the recipe.
Not only have I been cooking up a storm in the kitchen (that’s such a lie, I’ve barely cooked all week!), I’ve been on a flat pack building mission. Our lounge took somewhat of a back seat while we got the kids bedrooms furnished (yet more flat pack for me), so I’ve been busy building sideboards and a tv unit. It’s not quite finished yet, but it’s looking so much more like ‘home’ now. I love this house. Here’s hoping we’ll be here for a long time (no more moving abroad again).
The little one donned his swimming shorts earlier for a dip in the pool with Daddy. That’s about as exciting as this section is going to get this week I’m afraid!
Predictable much? I just love Sara’s podcast. I usually listen in while reading #littleloves posts on a Saturday morning. If I don’t have anything else planned, it’s my favourite way to spend a lazy weekend morning. I pop my headphones in, fire up the laptop and see what the #littleloves crew have been up to over the last week. I particularly enjoyed this episode of Hashtag Authentic, featuring Sas Petherick, who also has her own podcast. The latest of which features Sara herself and is well worth checking out.
I was reminded of why we moved back here this week. Firstly seeing the little one walk hand in hand with his cousins into school and throwing himself into my sister’s arms is reason enough to remind me. But on Thursday my internet had been off for about 12 hours overnight and was showing no sign of being turned back on anytime soon, so when she suggested coffee after the school run, I thought why not! Two hours later, we’d had our coffee and demolished breakfast too. Laughed ourselves silly, had a much-needed natter and had a wander around some of the most gorgeous shops (I feel a spending spree coming on). All while my little nephew snoozed. It’s definitely got to be a weekly occurrence from now on and really was just what I needed.
We’ve got a busy weekend with my niece’s party and a road trip and overnight stay planned. Have fun whatever you get up to!
