Back to School, Halloween & Beauty Pie | My Weekly Favourites

I can’t quite believe it’s November already. Where did October go? This week has been rather lovely. So without further waffling, here’s what we’ve been enjoying this week:

Back to School

We had a lovely half term visiting family and enjoying a few days out. It seemed to be over in a flash, but both kids were raring to get back to school and college. I wouldn’t say I was particularly desperate for them to go back, they were only off for a week after all. But now they’ve been back for a week, I’m loving being back in a routine again. Who knew I could be such a creature of habit.

Halloween

Halloween saw us trick or treating with my nieces and nephew, followed by dinner at their house. We saw some really fabulous decorations and costumes this year. My favourite, or perhaps my least favourite, was a creepy man in a mask dressed as a blood splattered butcher. He certainly went all out that’s for sure. After dinner we headed home where the little dude enjoyed handing out sweets to the trick or treaters who knocked on our door. I’m thinking of going all out with the decorations next year. Or maybe even having a little party at ours. I need an excuse to dress up as one of the Sanderson sisters.

Museums and Battlefields

On Saturday the little dude asked to go to Hastings museum which has a fab dinosaur collection. It’s about an hour’s drive from us but we thought why not and jumped in the car. The museum is in a beautiful old house, full of stunning features (history geek alert). And houses some fascinating exhibits – not just the dinosaur section. Instead of heading into Hastings after we finished at the museum we drove to pretty Battle just 15 minutes drive away for lunch. And as the little dude had been learning about the Battle of Hastings at school recently, we put our English Heritage passes to good use and enjoyed a stroll around Battle Abbey and the battlefield itself. It was one of those lovely impromptu days out you can’t wait to do again.

Beauty Pie

This month I ditched my Birchbox subscription in favour of giving Beauty Pie a go. You’ve probably heard about it by now. It cuts out the ‘middle man’ and allows you to buy luxury beauty products from the world’s best labs at a fraction of the price. I chose a £10 monthly membership, which allows me to buy up to £100 worth (market value) of makeup and skincare a month. Not that you actually spend that amount because you get it at the trade price.

I spent £25 and received a setting powder, lipstick, lip liner pencil and a new face serum. Also bagging myself a free mascara, free shipping and an extra £50 worth of credit to spend with my order too. I was a bit dubious as to how good the quality would be, but so far so good. The products I ordered all arrived within 2 days too which was pretty impressive especially as I selected the cheapest shipping option. I’m planning on doing a proper review once I get a bit more use out of the products I’ve bought, so keep your eyes peeled either on the blog or instagram stories in the coming weeks.

If you fancy giving Beauty Pie a go yourself you can get your first month free right now, while also taking advantage of some of the offers I did too.

Blog Posts

I actually wrote a few blog posts this week. I know, a shock right! There’s so many posts in my drafts right now waiting to be finished off and I never quite get around to actually doing it. I’m trying to change that. So this week I finally finished posts on my favourite conversational podcasts by women. If you like chatty podcasts, that one’s for you. I have so many other collections of podcasts to share – for business, for wellbeing, the list is endless. Here’s hoping they too make their way out of my drafts and onto the blog in the coming weeks.

I also shared what I read in October. I do love looking back on the books I’ve read throughout the year and these posts are the perfect way to do that. And I wrote about what I’m looking forward to in November. Of course, I love looking back on the things I’ve enjoyed each week or each month, but equally I find that looking forward is guaranteed to put a smile on my face. I’ve been writing these posts for a few months now and when things get a little tough, or life just seems to be a bit too ‘samey’, having something to look forward to is enough to pull me out the other side.

What have you been enjoying this week?

I’ve never heard of Beauty Pie before, will need to check it out, it sounds quite interested. I’ve never used any subscription boxes but I’m always tempted to try one.
My boys loved Halloween and I’m also thinking of maybe doing a party next year.
