Would I say this week has been quiet? I guess if you don’t include the back to back playdates, you could call it quiet. The Mr has been working abroad again and the kids and I have enjoyed a somewhat slower pace than previous weeks.
We’ve had another two ‘Headteacher’s Awards’ for the little dude, a jump of two reading levels (the child reads an encyclopedia for ‘fun’) and a school trip to Pets at Home for part of his animal care project.
And of course we watched the fireworks on Saturday night. We went for a smaller local fireworks display this time around and although we weren’t disappointed nothing with ever beat the fireworks in Malta for me. Malta is home to a large number of fireworks factories and there are fireworks going off all day every day. We were lucky enough to have a pool on our roof overlooking the sea one side and the town on the other. Any excuse for fireworks over the town and we were up in the pool watching. Glass of wine in hand for me. These are mega fireworks. The biggest you’ll ever see. Which explode before somehow turning into images of something, like the Maltese Cross. Or Micky Mouse. Cats, hearts. You name it. It really is amazing.
Anyway, onto my favourites this week:
On Saturday morning we headed to Betteshanger Country Park for a wander. It’s a huge country park, perfect for cycling and walking and as it was our first time there we enjoyed getting lost and crunching through the leaves in the woods. There’s a fab play area, which was very popular with both kids and a little cafe. Perfect for warming up with a coffee after a chilly walk.
The teen and I also enjoyed a wander around a little seaside town near where we live. The photo above is from that walk. We were wandering across a bridge over the canal and I stopped briefly to snap a photo. Considering my phone camera is pretty appalling at the best of times, I love this photo. I haven’t even bothered to edit it because it just captures the beauty of the canal on a sunny autumn day so beautifully. I just love this season, don’t you?
I am the parent who thought it would be a good idea to organise two separate playdates. On two consecutive days. What on earth was I thinking? We tend not to have anyone over after school while the Mr is here as he works from home and screaming kids charging about isn’t exactly what you need when you’re on skype to the CEO. So we made the most of him being away and invited the little dude’s friends over to play. And I celebrated successfully keeping three additional children arrive with a well deserved takeaway the night of the last playdate. Which fyi is the night I got shot for two hours solid by a twin armed with a nerf gun.
I also enjoyed a lovely lunch out with the moody teen, coffee with a school mum friend while we put the finishing touches to our little one’s joint birthday party. I got cracking on reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix after taking a few weeks break from the world of Harry Potter. And enjoyed watching the film with the teen, along with the Goblet of Fire.
What did you enjoy this week?
