A New Job, Afternoon Tea and All the Books | My Weekly Favourites

A New Job, Afternoon Tea and All the Books | My Weekly Favourites

Happy Friday! It’s been one hell of a week. Not in a bad way. Just busy and a little out of the ordinary for me, but good all the same. I am glad to see Friday though, even if I don’t get to clock off over the weekend. But a slightly slower pace sure is welcome.

It’s been so long since I last wrote a weekly favourites post. Life just keeps getting in the way, but this week I was determined to get back to recording all those things that have put a smile on my face this week.

So Many Amazing Books

Bohemian Rhapsody Book

Bohemian Rhapsody book inside

I mentioned I’d seen and loved the film Bohemian Rhapsody in my last #littleloves post about a month ago. Little did I know the lovely people at Carlton Publishing would see it and send me their last copy of the accompanying book. How lovely is that? It’s a gorgeous book packed full of stunning photos from the film and interviews with the cast and crew. And I loved the forward by the members of Queen. Just writing about it makes me want to watch the film again.

The Familiars

Oh how I loved The Familiars. This book is quite simply enchanting. It transports you to Pendle Hill and the surrounding countryside during the infamous Lancaster Witch Trials of 1612, to a time when just being a woman was dangerous. And for two women, 17-year-old lady of the manor Fleetwood and Alice, a young midwife, whose paths cross quite by chance, it really is life or death. Pregnant Fleetwood is desperate after reading a Dr’s letter to her husband claiming she won’t survive another pregnancy and Alice seems to be the answer to her prayers. But with mysterious forces at work and a real life witch hunt underway, will they both survive? I’ll let you find that out for yourself. But do read this book, it’s fantastic.

Cooking Up a Storm

Tom Kerridge Fresh Start

I love a recipe book and Tom Kerridge’s Fresh Start is one of those books I’ll refer back to again and again. Accompanying the series of the same name, it is packed with the most delicious healthy recipes. I’ve cooked at least ten of them already, infact the pork chops and pepperonata is on the menu tonight. And the Greek roast lamb, which featured in the programme is the most amazing roast lamb I’ve ever tasted.

Tonya Buxton The Secret of Spice

I love Tonia Buxton. I first saw her tv programme on some obscure tv channel when we lived in Malta and fell for her bubbly personality and amazing recipes. I’ve bought several of her cookery books since, but this one caught my eye most recently because it’s something a bit different. The Secret of Spice is an ode to all things spice. Not just a cookery book, Tonia takes you on a journey through your spice rack and beyond as she teaches you the properties of different spices and what they can help with. So whether you’re looking for the perfect anti ageing face mask or you’re looking for a healthy dessert recipe, this one is for you.

Work, Work, Work, Work, Work

This week has been a bit of a whirlwind work wise. Already a freelance social media manager, I took on another client, which is always exciting and one that has the potential to create jobs for others too. Something I’ve always wanted to be able to do, so watch this space!

Secondly, I accepted a part-time role in an office. Something I never thought I’d do, especially considering I already have a full-time job. However what was initially supposed to be more freelance work from home quickly turned into doing something completely different. And it’s a role that allows me to put the skills and knowledge gained working with the police and probation service to use again. Something I absolutely adored. So it’s been a good week. Busy yes and certainly varied. But I’m loving it so far.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea

Apologies for the terrible grainy mobile phone photo. But let’s face it, I wasn’t there for the photos. It was all about the chocolate afternoon tea and cocktails in front of me at the time. On Tuesday my friend and I enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea at one of our favourite places. We enjoyed a lovely few hours catching up and putting the world to rights. All of course while eating so much food we waddled out of there. It was like a breath of fresh air after a hard few weeks. I’m already convincing myself I need to go out more often.

What did you enjoy this week?

Congratulations on your new job, sounds like you will be super busy!
I still haven’t seen Bohemian Rapsody, but it’s on my list of films to see. Wish my sons were a bit older so we could all watch it together – they love Queen – but I think they might be too young

Congratulations on your new job and also gaining a new client. How lovely that you were sent a copy of the book, and I think I might buy that for the teen’s birthday as he loved the film too. Afternoon Tea with a friend sounds the perfect plan to chill out, which sounds as if you need to after a busy week x
