A Long Weekend, Sunrise & Amanda Prowse #littleloves

This week has been a bit of a disappointment to say the least. Mother’s Day pretty much sucked. I’ve been subjected to teenage attitude from hell. My kitchen floor was totally wrecked when the same moody teen dropped an entire bottle of red food dye on it. The result of which was what looked like a murder scene, it was up the walls, up me, the window and of course it stained the floor and cupboards. Having escaped said murder scene, I then managed to drive into a raised pavement, not once, but twice. Because clearly I had to make sure I’d completely caved the front of my car in rather than just denting it slightly. Honestly you couldn’t make this stuff up!

The one thing that has got me through this week is the fact that today is a public holiday so I won’t have to do the school run at ridiculous o’clock in the morning. Roll on the Easter holidays in just over a week.

Here’s what I have enjoyed this week:

Read

Somebody else's wife

the idea of you

I finished My Husband’s Wife and it was such a brilliant read. I loved it so much I read another Amanda Prowse book straight after. The Idea of You is heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure. It focuses on pregnancy, loss and what it means to be a mother, in every sense of the word.

If you haven’t read a book by Amanda Prowse yet, I’d definitely recommend them. And don’t worry the aren’t my usual brand of chick lit. They’re very much real. Offering glimpses into what could be your next door neighbour’s or colleagues lives.

Suzanne over at Inside Outside and Beyond has written another cracker. A Midlife Pity Party had me nodding along to every word. If you’re feeling a little lost with your blog, or even just life in general, it’s a must read.

Watched

sunrise

sunrise pool

I’ve been moaning I don’t get to take photos of the glorious sunsets over the sea when I pick the Mr up from work now the clocks have changed. This sunrise certainly made up for it. We may have even been a smidge late for school after the teen and I grabbed the DSLR and rushed upstairs to take photos of it rising over the pool.

Made

Tenuous link but I ‘made’ a list of the things that are helping me stick to my diet. I’ve lost just over 10lb and dropped a rather impressive (if I do so myself) 27.5 inches over 6 weeks. I’ve also made real progress on quitting smoking. I’ve been cigarette free for a whole month.

Wore

Gym clothes and a frown? Not much to see here I’m afraid.

Heard

I finally got my hands on Ed Sheeran’s album and have been singing along in the car all week. I love all the usual suspects, but this one is guaranteed to get me tapping my feet.

And lastly…

As I said we have a nice long weekend ahead of us. We haven’t made any plans and I think that’s probably just what I need after this week. I’m looking forward to lazy mornings reading in bed, snuggles with the little fella and just switching off for a few days.

Have a great weekend whatever you get up to!

Love the sunrise pictures, and your comments in the ‘Wore’ section. Haha! It sounds like you’re doing great on adjusting your lifestyle though… Honestly, I need to take a little inspiration on that front.

Sorry to hear you didn’t have the best of weekends – I hope this weekend is an improvement!

We’re lucky to have some pretty spectacular sunrises here. Thankfully this weekend has been much better than last – although it’s still only Sunday morning ha ha!

Gosh I’m totally with you on the teenage dramas – mine have me climbing the walls at times. They’re just so careless (and selfish)! Thanks so much for sharing my post, I’ve really appreciated all of the great feedback. Those photographs are amazing! I’ve not read anything by Amanda Prowse but you’ve made them sound so good that I’m off to check her out! Have a lovely long weekend 🙂

It’s like living with multiple personalities sometimes having a teenager. You never know when the stroppy/screaming one will turn up! I guess we’ve all been there though – or so my mum tells me. She really is a great writer and it’s definitely an escape from my usual chick lit. I’ve since discovered she has written tons of books so I’ll be working my way through them 😉

Thanks Claire, I’m kinda proud of myself when I think about it. Fingers crossed I can keep it going. The weight loss is actually proving harder than not smoking – I thought it would be the other way around! Had a lovely chilled day on Friday, can’t wait for the Easter holidays now for more of the same!

What beautiful sunsets and very well done on your weight and inch loss, that is amazing. Ah teenagers eh. God it really is like living in a battlefield some days isn’t it. Sorry you had such a bad day. Funnily enough I follow Amanda Prowse on twitter but have never read any of her books. They definitely sound the type of books I would like so I will keep an eye open for them x

Her books are brilliant and I’ve since discovered she has written loads, so I have a long old reading list to get through now. Teens are a nightmare huh! Amazing how quickly they can go from ‘normal’ to demonic – mine seems to on an hourly basis right now – this is why I resort to wine and chocolate cake!

Ha ha you’ve got a while to wait before the dreaded teen years kick in – enjoy it while it lasts 😉 I wouldn’t mind but by the time the teen turns 20 her little bro will only be 10 so I’ll be doing it all over again – I must be absolutely mad! This weekend seems to be making up for last, can’t wait for the easter hols now, I’m ready for chill out mode x

Ha ha I winced then reading it back, luckily this week has been an improvement, even if I have been ill all week! My advice for dealing with teens is to move out or at least buy shares in a vineyard 😉 Suzanne probably has way more sensible advice that I do, plus she’s outnumbered by teenagers – the woman is a saint! x

WOW that sunrise is so beautiful! Congratulations on losing 10 pounds. I’ve been wearing gym gear a lot this week too and a frown haha. Hopefully the next week is a lot better for you! #littleloves xx

WOW I think that sunrise just took over all my comment thoughts when I read this it’s so stunning. We are surrounded by city and buildings etc so we don’t get the beauty of nature like this. Reminds me so much of home. I haven’t heard of Amanda Prowse but I will have to pick up a few new books for Ireland will have to add these to it. Thanks. So sorry for the late comment I am playing catch up on today’s and last weeks #littleloves. Better late than never I hope! Happy Weekend.

Gorgeous isn’t it, we haven’t had one like it since – infact the weather is worse than in England at the mo, so not impressed! She’s a great author actually, definitely not the kind of thing I’d usually read (I’m all about the fluff usually) but she is brilliant at conveying the emotion of what she’s writing about – worth a look for sure! x

Wow, gorgeous sunset! I’ve not read any Amanda Prowse, although I’ve heard lots of great things about her books. I did have a little giggle at your ‘wore’ section, sorry! Not sure if that was your intention xx
