5 Things to do in London with Kids in the School Holidays

Things to do with kids in London in the school holidaysOne of my favourite places to go during the school holidays as a child was London. You grow up hearing so much about this vibrant metropolis, whether it’s at school or on tv, it has almost a magnetic pull.

My six year old is no different. London is this big exciting place, full of wonder and home to what he’s declared his ‘favourite place in the world’ – the Natural History Museum. He’s already planning his itinerary for the summer holidays.

I often find myself looking for deals on things to do in London with the kids. Let’s face it, the school holidays can be a bit of strain financially. You want to pack in as much as possible without breaking the bank. By keeping an eye out for deals on various attractions and activities it can help save a small fortune, especially if you have more than one child.

So what makes it onto our list of things to do in London with kids? Here’s our faves.

Natural History Museum

I had to start with the Natural History Museum. Dino boy wouldn’t have forgiven me otherwise. This is his idea of heaven. He wants to be a palaeontologist when he’s older and has already told me he WILL work there once he’s finished university. The animatronics, the skeletons, the research. He literally shakes with excitement every time he thinks about the place.

Of course, there’s more to this amazing museum than dinosaurs. And with so many hands on experiences for kids to enjoy, it’s a brilliant day out for the entire family.

Shrek’s Adventure

If you want an action-packed, laugh a minute London experience, look no further than Shrek’s Adventure. This walk and ride through attraction transports you to the Land of Far Far Away as you get to experience the action as if you’re a part of it. Shrek fans will absolutely love this one.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour

The moody teen’s favourite thing to do in London. I’m told it was so good she cried. Harry Potter fans have the chance to lose themselves in all things Hogwarts, experience the sets, learn how the special effects were created and even treat themselves to a Butterbeer. What more could you ask for?

The Lion King

One of the most moving and quite simply breathtaking shows I’ve ever seen. The Lion King is one the moody teen and I watched when it first came to London and we’ve been meaning to return to watch again. The costumes, the songs and the dancing are an absolute joy to see.

Rainforest Cafe

Worked up an appetite after all that sightseeing? Head to the Rainforest Cafe and enjoy a feast in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by elephants, orangutans, crocodiles and more. It’s a great place for a treat with the kids and beats McDonald’s hands down that’s for sure.

Other favourites of ours include visiting Greenwich where you can walk underneath the River Thames, climb aboard the Cutty Sark, stargaze at The Royal Observatory and enjoy a picnic in the beautiful park. Then there’s London Zoo, Madame Tussaud’s, Sea Life, the London Eye and so much more.
